My Sighthounds ... and Me

Walking

Every day we both are taking a nice, long walk through the valley in the Sauerland. This is an area that got its name by the constant rain, so that the soil became “sour” at some point. Therefore here you can cultivate well all bog plants in the Sauerland like azaleas, rhododendrons and hydrangeas, which are actually native to Japan. Also, in the Sauerland there are existing many fine drinking water reservoirs.

Daoud always enjoys his free circling in the pastures of an old radical farm, which is located very near our house. Previously cows grazed on this land and, consequently, we had many flies in our house. Today, on the neighboring land there is only a couple of horses owned by a retired teacher. It is his hobby as a pensionair to keep Fjord horses. When I'm walking with my Saluki, my dog is my favorite and only pastime. I look forward to have the sight, when my Saluki makes his rounds on one of these grassland and later again with a smiling face he comes back to me. I need to call him only, and then Daoud is even happy to return to me. His obedience during the time of free-running is great, and I'm really proud of him.

Sometimes we also observe the stream birds when they build their nests, or diligently busy feeding their young. We enjoy the rest - and everything around us is calm. But suddenly this wonderful peace has been interrupted by the woodpecker's drums, so we went on walking. The setting sun peeks out from a morning cloud and illuminated for a brief moment, this romantic vision. This gives us reason to pause and again to look - a view into the wide valley.

Then we go on and eventually dog and woman are back at home again. We are happy to have this performance every day. Sometimes we also meet some people and dogs of the neighborhood, then we have a walk and chat together, and we all have our fun with our dogs.

Meadows in May

When we made our daily walk yesterday, the rain made the grass grew in the meadows and suddenly it was full in bloom. Daoud did not wait long and jumped into the grass. But what was that? My Daoud had disappeared suddenly, and here you have an image to search a Saluki in the grass.

Then he rushed through the grass as usually and looked sometimes over the wild fennel. This all had been a good training for him, and he was happily looking and got safely back to me.
